Work Experience

September 2003 - Present: Formed company that provides accounting, tax advisory/return preparation, review, compilation, financial statement preparation services. Supervise all areas of the company.

June 1996 - September 2003: Co-owned and managed BCG Enterprises, a franchised tax preparation service. Taught state approved 12 week income tax course. Trained students in tax law and use of software. Supervised preparation of individual and business tax returns. Performed business advisory services as a certified public accountant. Drafted articles of incorporation and negotiated the maze of business startup procedures on behalf of clients. Led the company to a 300 percent increase in its customer base during the period 1999 to 2003.

December 1998 - December 2000: Served as treasurer of the Waltherson Improvement Association, a Baltimore City neighborhood nonprofit group. Accounted for all revenues and expenditures. Reconciled checking accounts monthly. Issued a monthly and annual treasurers report. Completed application process for re-certification as a 501 (c)(3) entity, completed form 990 and all required tax returns.

August 1992 - May 1996: Owned/operated a gasoline and convenience store retail establishment. Hired, trained and supervised employees. Performed various customer service functions. Managed all areas of the business including accounting, marketing, and administrative.

September 1982 - July 1991: Served as a US Army officer with a logistics concentration. Commanded, supervised, trained and counseled soldiers and civilians. Managed the accounting center of a major command that accounted for over one half billion dollars in war reserve equipment and supplies. Trained and supervised accountants who captured and recorded daily transactions involving inventory items. Authorized changes to the accounting records. Prepared and issued periodic reports to higher headquarters. Awarded the Meritorious Service Medal upon departure from active duty.

February 1980 - September 1982: Worked as an accounts payable accounting clerk for Continental Forest Industries, a forest products company, located in Savannah, Georgia. Screened invoices for correctness/accuracy, coordinated with vendors and field representatives to reconcile discrepancies, coded invoices for inclusion into general ledger, processed invoices for payment. Managed expense accounts and real property records.
